Mangombe Blames Inexperience as Dynamos Share Spoils With Highlanders

Sports Correspondent – Dynamos F.C. coach Genesis Mangombe believes the pressure of facing fierce rivals Highlanders F.C. may have unsettled some of his players during their entertaining 2-2 draw in the 2026 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Matchday Two clash.

Mangombe fielded several players who were featuring in Zimbabwe’s biggest club rivalry for the first time and admitted the magnitude of the occasion could have contributed to their struggles.

“Dynamos and Highlanders are the two biggest clubs in the country and, with that huge crowd, it will never be easy if it’s your first game,” Mangombe said after the match.

The Dynamos mentor revealed he tried to calm the nerves of the substitutes he introduced in the second half by reminding them not to be overwhelmed by the occasion.

“As for those whom I introduced in the second half, I told them that the game is just like other games,” he said.
Mangombe, however, was unhappy with the way his side conceded in the second half, pointing to poor organisation and communication at the back.

“We shouldn’t have conceded in the second half. That goal was avoidable and there was no communication whatsoever, and the goalkeeper was off his line,” he said.

“We will try and address those things in training.”
Highlanders took the lead in the 39th minute when Never Rauzhi finished off a slick passing move.

Dynamos came back strongly after the break, with Tellmore Pio equalising immediately after the restart.
The hosts regained their advantage in the 78th minute when Mongameli Tshuma produced a brilliant solo effort, beating three defenders before calmly slotting the ball home.

But Dynamos had the final say as Collins Mujuru struck four minutes later to level matters and ensure the thrilling contest ended in a 2-2 draw.
