The Zimbabwe Football Association has confirmed that the country will host a major junior football tournament in April.
Zimbabwe will stage the CAF African Schools Football Championship Continental Finals from 2 to 10 April 2026, with matches set to be played in Harare.
In a statement, ZIFA said the hosting rights mark a significant milestone for local football, as it will be the first time in over six years that Zimbabwe hosts a Confederation of African Football event.
The association described the tournament as one of Africa’s most important youth football platforms, offering local communities, schools and supporters a chance to be part of a continental spectacle.
The competition also carries substantial rewards, with the winning schools in both the boys’ and girls’ categories set to receive $300,000. Runners-up will earn $200,000, while third-placed teams will get $150,000. The prize money is earmarked for infrastructure development at the respective schools, including classrooms, libraries and sports facilities.
A total of 16 teams will take part in the finals, comprising zonal champions, hosts Zimbabwe and invited teams from other confederations — a move aimed at increasing global exposure while maintaining the tournament’s African identity.
