AFCON Chaos : Zimbabwean MP Blasts CAF After Senegal Stripped Of Title
Tinashe Sambiri– A Zimbabwean opposition legislator has fiercely criticised the decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to strip Senegal of the Africa Cup of Nations title and award the trophy to Morocco following a disciplinary ruling.
The decision came after Morocco successfully appealed to CAF’s disciplinary committee, which ruled that Senegal would forfeit the match 3–0, effectively handing the championship to Morocco.
The ruling has sparked outrage among football supporters across Africa, with critics arguing that a continental title should not be decided behind closed doors rather than on the pitch.
Zimbabwean opposition Member of Parliament Mutsa Murombedzi was among the first political figures to condemn the decision, accusing CAF of taking the trophy away from the rightful winners.
“Yes! It’s shocking that the trophy is snatched from the winner in a boardroom and given to a loser.
Congratulations once again Senegal,” Murombedzi said.
She went on to question the credibility of the decision, insisting that Senegal had rightfully won the competition.
“CAF pane basa. This is total rubbish. Senegal won. Congratulations once again Senegal,” she added.
The controversy has ignited heated debate among football fans across the continent, with many questioning whether the decision could damage the credibility of African football’s biggest tournament.
