Garwe Imposes ZiG, Constitutional Amendment Bill On Zanu PF Supporters In Mash East

By A Correspondent -The ZANU PF inter-district mobilisation campaign in Mashonaland East escalated yesterday, raising concerns over the party’s push for Constitutional Amendment No. 3 and the rollout of the new ZiG currency.

The gathering in Sadza, Chikomba District, brought together party members from Wedza and Chikomba to defend government-led initiatives that critics say undermine democratic principles and impose untested economic measures.

Provincial Chairperson Daniel Garwe used the meeting to emphasise strict party backing for the controversial reforms.

“Constitutional Amendment No. 3 is essential for modernising our governance structures,” Garwe said. “We must implement it to ensure the legal framework matches government priorities, even if ordinary citizens are left out of the process.”

The session also highlighted the ZiG currency, which Garwe described as “durable, secure, and a key tool in restoring confidence,” despite public fears over sudden monetary changes and past currency failures. He urged party members to “remain vigilant against counterfeit notes” as the government pushes the currency nationwide.

Observers noted that the high turnout appeared orchestrated, with critics arguing that grassroots support may not be genuine. Concerns persist over the lack of broad consultation and the rushed imposition of both constitutional and economic reforms.

The inter-district mobilisation tour is expected to continue across Mashonaland East this week, as the party intensifies efforts to consolidate support and promote policies that many claim are divisive and potentially harmful to Zimbabwe’s democratic and economic stability.
