ZIFA engages Plymouth Argyle over defender Brendan Galloway

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has engaged Plymouth Argyle over the availability of Warriors defender Brendan Galloway ahead of upcoming national team assignments.

Plymouth have confirmed that communication has already taken place, with head coach Tom Cleverley revealing that Zimbabwe are keen to have the defender join their squad.

Galloway was initially omitted from the Warriors squad that was announced over a week ago, with his fitness status a key factor behind the decision.

Speaking to the Plymouth Herald, Cleverley said: “We have had communication from Zimbabwe… We were all waiting until the last minute to see if Brendan was going to be fit, and fully fit.

“He has come through the game the other night perfectly fine. They have named their squad but they are interested in Brendan being released for those internationals.

“If that happens then potentially the Bradford game could be called off. The end of play today (Thursday) we should know because both clubs need to plan.”

Zimbabwe are set to feature in a four-nation tournament against hosts Botswana, Zambia and Malawi.

The semi-finals are scheduled for March 28, with the winners progressing to the final while the losing sides will contest a third-place playoff on March 31.
