Zambia to Send Second-Tier Squad to Botswana Tournament After Securing Argentina Friendly
Zambia will field a second-string side at the upcoming Four Nations Tournament in Botswana after confirming a high-profile international friendly against world champions Argentina.
The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) announced that the prestigious match against Argentina will take place in Buenos Aires on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.
The fixture coincides with the Four Nations Tournament, scheduled to run from March 28 to 31 in Botswana, creating a scheduling clash for the Chipolopolo.
As a result, FAZ has opted to deploy the senior national team for the Argentina encounter under head coach George Lwandamina, while a locally assembled “B” team will represent the country in Botswana. The second-tier side, made up of domestic players and emerging talent, will be led by coach Osward Mutapa.
“We have received an invitation to play Argentina, and it is an opportunity we simply cannot pass up,” said acting FAZ General Secretary Iva Lengwe. “When the world champions come calling, you answer.
“It is a clear sign of the respect Zambia has continued to earn on the global stage. However, since this fixture falls at the same time as the Four Nations Tournament, we have decided to send our local assemblage to Francistown.”
The Four Nations Tournament will feature Zambia alongside Zimbabwe, Botswana, and Malawi, offering a platform for developing players to gain international experience.
