Tinashe Sambiri– In a unique display of personal political activism, a Zimbabwean man has taken to the streets of Gweru to campaign solo for the controversial Constitutional Amendment Bill that seeks to extend Emmerson Mnangagwa’s term in office.

According to posts circulating on a WhatsApp platform, the man explained the reasoning behind his unusual campaign and appealed for support from passersby.

“Hi Gweru, mukandiwonawo muroad, please siyai chero dollar or 5 or 10 USD. Kana mvura or drink nemaBuns. Zvandiri kuita kutakura simbi iyo ine advert hapana ari kundi bhadhara or kundipawo mari.

In his message, the man emphasized that he was acting out of patriotism rather than personal gain.

He said, “I am doing this because I love my country and I want the best for it. That’s why I am supporting this bill.”

Observers have noted that while this individual effort is unusual, it highlights the extreme measures some citizens are willing to take to express political allegiance in the country.

Despite the solitary nature of his campaign, the man has appealed for small contributions from those who see him on the road, requesting donations such as cash, water, or snacks to aid his street campaign.

“This is a solo effort, but I am calling on anyone who sees me to help in whatever way they can,” he added.

The Constitutional Amendment Bill, which has sparked significant national debate, proposes changes that would extend the President’s term and alter aspects of Zimbabwe’s governance structure, fueling discussion across social media and local communities.

This lone campaigner’s initiative underscores the diverse and sometimes surprising ways citizens engage with political processes in Zimbabwe, reflecting both personal commitment and public curiosity about the controversial legislation.
