Doja Cat meets with her South African family
Doja Cat finally experienced a deeply personal moment during her long-awaited visit to South Africa, reconnecting with her father’s side of the family for the first time.
Videos circulating online captured the emotional gathering, showing the Grammy-winning star surrounded by relatives who welcomed her warmly.
From cousins to half-siblings, the atmosphere was filled with smiles, hugs and excitement as Doja embraced her South African roots during her stay.
The touching family moment came just days before her appearance at the Global Citizen Festival 2026, where she performed to a massive crowd, marking a major milestone in her career and her connection to the country.
However, what should have been a purely celebratory homecoming was clouded by a very public dispute with her father, Dumisani Dlamini.
The veteran actor made headlines after claiming he was denied entry to his daughter’s concert despite purchasing his own ticket.
“I am going with all the security; they kicked me out of the place. They said, ‘You are not allowed to come and see your daughter.’ I’ve paid the money for tickets, no one offered me,” he said in an emotional video shared online.
The incident followed a tense exchange between father and daughter on social media, including a controversial claim by Doja that she sent him a misleading link after he allegedly turned down her invitation to the show.
Despite the fallout, Dlamini urged the public not to turn against his daughter, referring to her affectionately while insisting that he still supports her journey.
At the same time, he pointed fingers at Doja’s mother, Deborah Elizabeth Sawyer, accusing her of keeping him away from their child for most of her life.
