Namibia Cuts Fuel Levies As Zim Government Maintains High Taxes

Tinashe Sambiri– The Namibian government has announced a 50% reduction in fuel levies for a limited period of three months, in an effort to cushion consumers from rising fuel prices.

The decision comes ahead of a significant fuel price increase set to take effect on 1 April, which is expected to put pressure on motorists and businesses.
Speaking in Windhoek, Minister Modestus Amutse said the levy reduction is aimed at easing the burden on citizens as fuel costs rise.

He confirmed that petrol prices will increase by N$2.50 per litre, while diesel prices will go up by N$4 per litre.

After the adjustments, fuel prices at Walvis Bay will stand at N$22.08 per litre for petrol 95, N$23.63 per litre for diesel 50ppm, and N$23.73 per litre for diesel 10ppm.

Amutse said the government is taking steps to manage the impact of global oil price increases. He said, “In addition, the Fund will continue to stabilise fuel price volatility for at least the next three months, while part of the under-recoveries expected in April 2026 will be absorbed by the National Energy Fund, amounting to approximately N$500 million per month.”

He added that authorities will continue monitoring international oil market trends and act where necessary to protect the country’s energy security.

Amutse also urged citizens to remain calm and buy fuel responsibly, saying the government is working to protect their interests and ensure a stable fuel supply.
