Lehlogonolo Chauke returned to court on March 27, making a notable change to his legal team as his case continues to unfold.
The musician, popularly known as Shebeshxt, appeared before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court accompanied by his new legal representative, Advocate Michael Khumalo.
Addressing the court, Khumalo confirmed that he has officially taken over the case, stating that he had already notified Chauke’s previous attorneys, Ramusi Attorneys, as well as the court, of the change.
Khumalo also revealed their next move, indicating plans to push for another bail attempt.
“We intend to submit a new bail application following developments in the case,” he said.
This development comes after Chauke’s earlier efforts to secure bail were unsuccessful.
His initial application was denied in December, and a subsequent appeal was also dismissed in January, leaving him in custody.
While the defence appears ready to make a fresh push, proceedings hit a delay on Friday due to the unavailability of Magistrate Godfrey Netshiozwi and state prosecutor Advocate Kgaogelo Lekoloane.
As a result, the anticipated bail application could not be heard.
Meanwhile, the case has now been escalated to the Regional Court, with Chauke expected back in court on May 15.
Until then, he remains behind bars as his legal team prepares its next move.
