Zimbabwean football development is set for a major boost after Villarreal CF confirmed plans to host its first-ever training camp in the country in partnership with Athletes Sphere Academy.
The Spanish club’s academy coaches will travel to Harare for a three-day training programme scheduled for April 27, 28 and 30, 2026. The camp will be exclusively for players from Athletes Sphere Academy, targeting boys aged between five and 19.
The camp is set to take place at Morris Depot Grounds,and it will give one standout Zimbabwean player a rare opportunity to one to travel to Spain and participate in an official Villarreal CF tournament.
Athletes Sphere Global director Gerald Sibanda expressed excitement over the partnership, describing it as a significant step forward for football development in Zimbabwe.
“We are delighted to collaborate with Villarreal CF for the next chapter of our football development programmes for Zimbabwe. It’s a great honour working with a massive club in Spain and UEFA competitions,” Sibanda said.

Villarreal CF international business manager Brandon Páramo also welcomed the collaboration, highlighting the long-term vision behind the initiative.
“It’s great to collaborate in this first camp in Zimbabwe in partnership with Athletes Sphere Global. Through this initiative, we aim to share Villarreal CF’s methodology with international players, supporting their development by providing a unique opportunity to learn directly from our coaches,” he said.
“This is just the beginning of our journey in the region, and we look forward to expanding our collaboration, creating further opportunities both on the sporting and commercial fronts in the near future.”
