“Extend Mnangagwa Rule to 37 Years,” Says Poet Abel Mauchi
By A Correspondent – Masvingo-based poet Abel Mauchi has sparked debate after suggesting that President Emmerson Mnangagwa should remain in power for 37 years, mirroring the lengthy rule of former President Robert Mugabe.
Mauchi made the remarks during an appearance on the DJ Ollah 7 Podcast earlier this week, where he weighed in on Zimbabwe’s political direction and the ongoing conversations around leadership continuity and constitutional reforms.
During the interview, the outspoken poet argued that Zimbabwe’s Constitution is ultimately shaped by the will of the people and can be amended if there is collective agreement to do so. He suggested that long-term leadership could provide policy consistency and stability if backed by public support.
“President ED Mnangagwa should serve 37 years like President Mugabe, Constitution is shaped by the people and can be adjusted to match their wishes,” Mauchi said during the interview on the DJ Ollah podcast show.
His remarks come at a time when debate continues to intensify around constitutional amendments and presidential term limits, with political commentators and civil society groups expressing differing views on the implications of extending time in office.
