Tinashe Sambiri– Masvingo-based poet Abel Mauchi has stirred debate after suggesting that President Emmerson Mnangagwa should remain in office for 37 years, similar to the late former President Robert Mugabe’s long tenure in power.
Mauchi made the remarks during an appearance on the DJ Ollah 7 Podcast earlier this week, where he weighed in on Zimbabwe’s political trajectory and the ongoing discussions around constitutional amendments and leadership continuity.
During the interview, the outspoken poet argued that the country’s Constitution is not rigid and can be reshaped to reflect the aspirations of the people, particularly if there is widespread support for extended leadership.
“President ED Mnangagwa should serve 37 years like President Mugabe, Constitution is shaped by the people and can be adjusted to match their wishes,” Mauchi said during the interview on the DJ Ollah podcast show.
His comments come at a time when debate continues to intensify around constitutional reforms and the future of presidential term limits, with differing views emerging from across Zimbabwe’s political and civic landscape.
