OUTRAGE: Chief Justice and Susan Mutami’s ExBoyfriend Fly Off To Australia On USD500,000 Cash Trip

Australia trip by CJ and Secretary

By Mandla Mpofu | Zimbabwe’s taxpayers are left stunned and outraged as outgoing Chief Justice Luke Malaba and Judicial Service Commission (JSC) Secretary Dr. Walter Chikwana prepare to jet off to Australia on a luxurious trip, splashing over $500,000 on first-class tickets and daily allowances.

With their terms set to end on May 17, 2026, the timing of this extravagant trip raises serious questions about the priorities of these outgoing officials. The trip, which includes a high court judge and three other officials, comes on the heels of another lavish trip to Addis Ababa, which cost taxpayers $80,000. THE Addis Ababa trip was an AI program yet the chief justice and the secretary flew to Ethiopia without any one from the technical team. It is clear that the chief Justice is aiming to leave the JSC coffers clean.

This blatant abuse of public funds is a stark reminder of the deep-seated corruption and mismanagement that has plagued Zimbabwe’s Justice institution. What’s the justification for spending half a million dollars on a trip for outgoing officials who will no longer be serving the country? The JSC had spend half a billion in top of the range cars to its staff most of them intimately close to the JSC secretary. Junior officers have been given cars meant for ministers with no justification for that extravagance.

The lack of tangible benefits to the Judicial Service Commission and the justice system is glaring. Millions are being squandered on officials who are on their way out, while the country struggles to provide basic services to its citizens. This is a gross betrayal of public trust and a slap in the face to Zimbabweans who are struggling to make ends meet.

A lawyer who spoke on the condition of anonymity said “We demand a forensic audit into the financial dealings of the JSC to uncover the extent of this financial mismanagement. It’s time to hold those responsible for this abuse of power accountable for their actions.”

The people of Zimbabwe will not stand idly by while their hard-earned money is being squandered on lavish trips and perks for outgoing officials. We call on the new leadership to take immediate action to address this scandal and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.

The era of impunity must end. The era of accountability must begin at the JSC.
The JSC secretary was not available for comment.
