ZIFA suspends three match officials

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has suspended three match officials following their performance in a recent Castle Lager Premier Soccer League fixture.

Referee Nelson Meke, Assistant Referee Mncedisi Maphosa and Assistant Referee Taurai Muranganwa have all been barred from officiating top-flight matches for four match days.

The decision comes after their handling of the league encounter between Bulawayo Chiefs and Dynamos FC at Barbourfields Stadium on March 19, 2026, which fell below the expected standards.

The suspension came into effect on Matchday 4 and will last until Matchday 7.

In a statement, ZIFA confirmed the disciplinary action:

“The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) wishes to confirm the suspension of Referee Nelson Meke, Assistant Referee Mncedisi Maphosa, and Assistant Referee Taurai Muranganwa from officiating Premier Soccer League matches for four match days, from matchday 4 to matchday 7.

“The suspensions follow their performance in the Bulawayo Chiefs versus Dynamos FC match played at Barbourfields Stadium on 19 March 2026, which was reported by the Match Commissioner as not meeting the expected standard. The officials were found to have contravened paragraph 21 of the Referees Code of Conduct.

“ZIFA remains committed to maintaining high standards of officiating, professionalism and accountability in Zimbabwean football.”
