CAF President Patrice Motsepe gives positive assessment on ZIFA leadership

The Confederation of African Football president, Patrice Motsepe, has given a positive assessment of the leadership of the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) under Nqobile Magwizi.

Motsepe was in attendance at the finals of the 2026 African Schools Football Championship at Ngoni Stadium on Friday.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the tournament, the CAF president said the Magwizi-led board has achieved “enormous progress” so far.

“I will start by thanking my brother at ZIFA, thank you for the leadership you are providing,” said Motsepe.

“All of us can see the enormous progress since you arrived.”

On the successful hosting of the junior tournament, Motsepe added: “It is very important that we continue to give hosting opportunities to countries that would not ordinarily qualify for such events, because in doing so we give them a platform to compete at the highest level, to showcase their abilities and to prove that they too can organise and deliver football of the highest standard.”

Zimbabwe hosted the African Schools Football Championship tournament from 2–10 April, with all group games played at Gateway High School, before the action moved to Ngoni Stadium for the semi-finals and finals in both the boys’ and girls’ competitions.
