Junior Golfers Shine at President’s Cup as ZGA Applauds Parental Support

By A Correspondent| The Zimbabwe Golf Association (ZGA) has commended the growing role of parents and coaches in nurturing young talent, as junior golfers delivered impressive performances at the 2026 President’s Cup Juniors Tournament.

ZGA president Blessmore Gandawa praised the commitment being shown across the country in grooming the next generation of golfers, describing the tournament as a key platform for development and exposure.

Speaking at the prize-giving ceremony, Gandawa said the involvement of parents and coaches remains critical to the future of the sport.

“This is the future of golf. We need to continue supporting junior golfers so that one day they will carry our country’s flag on international stages,” he said.

The tournament brought together young golfers from various clubs, with about 40 players from the Matabeleland Junior Golfers Association recognised for their outstanding performances.

Gandawa also commended one of the junior golfers who recently represented Zimbabwe in Ireland, highlighting the increasing international exposure for local talent and the importance of sustained support structures.

In the 8–10 years category, standout performers included Rose Musakasa who scored 22 points, followed by Ayanda Ndlovu with 17 points and C. Mnungwazi on 16 points. R. Kondo and Khaya finished with 4 and 1 point respectively.

In the 11–14 years category, Isabella Rose emerged as the top performer with 26 points, while B. Gondo finished second with 22 points. A. Maisiri and C. Sigaule both recorded 21 points in a closely contested field. Other participants included Ian Duminikweni, R. Kotta, A. Muchara and Cosmos.

Tournament partners NetOne Cellular Pvt Ltd reaffirmed their commitment to junior development, praising the talent and determination shown by the young golfers.

Representing the NetOne Chief Executive Officer, Public Relations Manager Ernest Magadzire said the company was proud to support emerging talent.

“This is a very special day for us and the junior golfers who have shown great skill and determination. We acknowledge the champions for their courage and sportsmanship. At NetOne, we believe in young people and their dreams — you are already winners,” he said, while also thanking parents and coaches for their continued support.

NetOne Regional Manager Gugulethu Ndlovu expressed admiration for the level of talent and discipline displayed, describing it as a strong indicator of Zimbabwe’s promising golfing future.

“We are truly impressed by the performance, focus and sportsmanship shown by these juniors. It is encouraging to see such raw talent being nurtured at an early stage. As NetOne, we are proud to be part of this journey and remain committed to supporting platforms that develop young people, not only in sport but in building confidence, character and ambition,” she said.

Ndlovu added that continued investment in grassroots initiatives like the President’s Cup would ensure sustained growth of the sport.

“These young golfers are a testament to what can be achieved through dedication, guidance from coaches, and strong parental support. We will continue to walk this journey with them and create opportunities for them to reach even greater heights,” she said.

The President’s Cup Juniors Tournament continues to play a critical role in identifying and nurturing Zimbabwe’s future golfing stars.
