Chadzamira Praises Zimbabwe-Mozambique Ties as Critics Point to Empty Promises
Tinashe Sambiri– Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Hon. Ezra Chadzamira, has reaffirmed what he described as strong and enduring relations between Zimbabwe and Mozambique, during a reception dinner hosted for a Mozambican delegation from Gaza Province at Triangle Country Club on Friday.
In his welcome remarks, Chadzamira expressed appreciation for the visit and extended greetings on behalf of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, the Government, and the people of Masvingo Province. He said the visit reflected “deep-rooted bonds of friendship, solidarity, and cooperation” between the two countries.
“On behalf of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, the Government, and the people of Masvingo Province, we are honoured to host our brothers and sisters from Mozambique,” said Chadzamira.
He further stated that the relationship between the two nations is anchored on shared history, mutual respect, and common aspirations.
However, despite the optimistic tone, critics argue that such engagements often remain ceremonial, with limited visible impact on economic development or cross-border infrastructure projects that have long been discussed but slow to materialise.
Chadzamira highlighted Masvingo Province’s potential in agriculture, tourism, mining, and trade, saying the province remains committed to inclusive development aligned with Zimbabwe’s national vision.
“The province remains committed to promoting inclusive development in line with Zimbabwe’s national vision,” he said.
He also stressed the cultural and historical ties between Zimbabwe and Mozambique, noting shared families, languages, and traditions as a foundation for regional stability.
“We share more than borders; we share families, languages, and traditions that bind us together,” he said.
Yet, despite repeated assurances from officials, concerns persist over stalled or slow-moving cross-border initiatives, with critics saying the gap between political statements and practical implementation continues to widen.
Chadzamira also called for stronger cooperation between Masvingo and Gaza Province in areas such as trade, infrastructure development, tourism, climate resilience, and agriculture.
“We believe this visit will strengthen existing partnerships and unlock new avenues for mutually beneficial cooperation,” he said.
He encouraged both sides to pursue knowledge exchange and shared best practices for sustainable development.
“We must learn from each other’s experiences and best practices in pursuit of sustainable development,” he said.
Reflecting on liberation history, Chadzamira said the two nations remain united by a shared struggle that continues to inspire cooperation.
“The legacy of unity continues to inspire us to work together towards a prosperous future,” he said.
He concluded by welcoming the delegation and wishing them a productive stay in Masvingo Province, as questions remain over whether such diplomatic engagements will translate into meaningful development outcomes.
