Mamelodi Sundowns dropped two crucial points in the PSL title race at home against Stellenbosch FC on Wednesday.
On the night, the Brazilians looked dominant throughout the game but they could not bury their chances.
Katlego Ntsabeleng opened the scoring, and it looked like it was going to be an easy game for Sundowns until the last few minutes of the game.
Stellies upped the ante in the final minutes of the encounter at Loftus Versfeld Stadium, and they were rewarded when Khulumani Ndamane conceded a penalty.
Substitute Tshegofatso Mabasa stepped up and converted, much to the disappointment of Sundowns fans.
Ultimately, the match ended in a 1-1 draw, leaving Sundowns second on the log, a point behind leaders Orlando Pirates.
IS THE PSL TITLE RACE OVER FOR SUNDOWNS?
The answer to the question above is a big NO!
Sundowns may be second on the log, and may not win all their remaining league games but that doesn’t mean the title race is over.
With a game in hand, the Tshwane giants still have an opportunity to, at least go top, once they are equal on games with Pirates.
Furthermore, it is not guaranteed that Pirates will win all their remaining games to maintain their spot at the summit of the log.
Now, that makes this season’s PSL title race exciting for the fans, and very tense for the two teams competing for the crown.
What’s more interesting is that Sundowns have now faced Stellies who will later host Pirates.
Furthermore, as SA People reported, Kaizer Chiefs will also be the king-makers as both Pirates and Sundowns still have to play both of them.
