Former CAPS United player threatens FIFA action over unpaid dues

A former CAPS United player, Cabby Kamhapa, has threatened to report the club to FIFA over alleged outstanding sign-on fees and unpaid salaries.

Kamhapa claims the Green Machine has failed to honor contractual obligations dating back to his time at the club.

The former midfielder claims to be owed a total of US$18,000.00 in sign on fees from 2016 to 2018, as well as outstanding salaries and bonuses, which accumulate to nearly US$20,000.00.

Kamhapa says he has engaged the club for years, requesting his dues, and their last meeting was early in January when the club promised to settle him within three months on an installment basis but still no action has been taken.

“I have tried to resolve this issue amicably, but nothing has changed,” Kamhapa exclusively told Soccer24 Zimbabwe.

The former Mbabane Swallows midfielder was part of the 2016 league title-winning CAPS United, which went on to make history in the African Safari by reaching the CAF Champions League group stages in 2017.

Disgruntled Kamhapa says he has made multiple follow-ups with club officials, and there has been little progress in settling the debt.

“We had a meeting at the club’s offices, and we verbally agreed that they would pay my money on an installment basis, but up to now, they have not paid a cent, and they are no longer responding to my calls and messages,” he added.

Kamhapa further indicated that he is now consulting legal representation to pursue the matter through football’s international governing structures starting next week if the club fails to act.

If the case is filed, FIFA could refer it to its Dispute Resolution Chamber, which handles contractual disputes between players and clubs.

CAPS United could face sanctions, including transfer bans or fines, if found guilty of breaching contractual agreements.

Kamhapa’s case is one of the many in local football and a concern over players welfare and contract enforcement has been raised by various stakeholders which represents players.
