Former CAPS United Star Threatens FIFA Action Over Unpaid Dues
Sports Correspondent – A former CAPS United player, Cabby Kamhapa, has threatened to report the club to FIFA over alleged unpaid sign-on fees and outstanding salaries.
Kamhapa claims the Green Machine failed to meet contractual obligations dating back to his time at the club.
The former midfielder says he is owed approximately US$18,000 in sign-on fees from 2016 to 2018, along with additional unpaid salaries and bonuses, bringing the total claim to nearly US$20,000.
He revealed that he has engaged the club for several years in an effort to recover his dues, with the most recent meeting taking place in January.
During that meeting, CAPS United allegedly committed to settling the debt through an installment plan within three months, but no payments have been made.
“I have tried to resolve this issue amicably, but nothing has changed,” Kamhapa told Soccer24 Zimbabwe.
The former Mbabane Swallows midfielder was part of CAPS United’s 2016 league title-winning squad and later contributed to the club’s historic run in the CAF Champions League, where they reached the group stages in 2017.
A frustrated Kamhapa says repeated follow-ups with club officials have yielded little progress. “We had a meeting at the club’s offices, and we verbally agreed that they would pay my money on an installment basis, but up to now, they have not paid a cent, and they are no longer responding to my calls and messages,” he added.
He indicated that he is now consulting legal representation and could escalate the matter to FIFA next week if the club fails to act. Should the case be formally filed, it may be referred to FIFA’s Dispute Resolution Chamber, which handles contractual disputes between players and clubs.
If found guilty of breaching contractual obligations, CAPS United could face sanctions, including transfer bans or financial penalties.
Kamhapa’s situation highlights a broader concern within local football regarding player welfare and the enforcement of contracts, an issue that continues to draw criticism from stakeholders representing players.
