Date: 26 April 2026
Venue: FNB Stadium
Sports Correspondent – Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates played out a tense 1-1 draw in a heated Soweto Derby encounter at FNB Stadium.
Amakhosi made a couple of changes to their line-up, bringing back Sibongiseni Mthethwa and Pule Mmodi after their stalemate against Polokwane City.
Pirates, on the other hand, made just one adjustment from their previous victory over AmaZulu, with Deon Hotto coming into the side.
Kick-off was delayed by 45 minutes due to crowd-related issues, with the match eventually starting at 15h45.
Pirates started the brighter of the two sides, dominating possession in the opening exchanges. They thought they had taken the lead in the 18th minute when Oswin Appollis found the net, but the goal was disallowed for offside.
Shortly after, the Buccaneers had a golden opportunity to go ahead.
Relebohile Mofokeng made a strong run down the right flank and set up Yanela Mbuthuma, who was unmarked in the box, but Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Petersen reacted quickly to deny him with an impressive save.
Pirates suffered a setback in the 33rd minute when Tshepang Moremi was forced off due to injury and replaced by Patrick Maswanganyi.
The breakthrough eventually came in the second half, with Chiefs taking the lead in the 62nd minute through Pule Mmodi. However, Pirates responded late in the game, equalising in the 75th minute via Sebelebele to ensure the spoils were shared.
Full-time score: Orlando Pirates 1 (Sebelebele 75’) – 1 Kaizer Chiefs (Mmodi 62’)
Betway Man of the Match: Brandon Petersen
