Caps United Break Barbourfields Jinx With Crucial Win
Sports Correspondent – CAPS United secured a hard-fought victory over Highlanders, ending a long-standing winless run at Barbourfields Stadium.
The Green Machine triumphed 2-1 over Bosso in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Matchday 9 clash played on Sunday, marking their first league win at the venue since 2015.
Makepekepe took the lead in the 36th minute through Kudzai Chigwida, heading into the halftime break with the advantage. They extended their lead in the second half when Malawi striker Lloyd Njaliwa found the back of the net in the 65th minute.
Highlanders mounted a response ten minutes later, with substitute Darlington Mukuli reducing the deficit. Despite late pressure from the hosts, CAPS United held firm to secure all three points.
The victory sees CAPS United strengthen their position at the top of the table with 22 points, opening a four-point gap over second-placed Hardrock FC.
In another fixture, Dynamos were held to a 0-0 draw by ZPC Kariba at Rufaro Stadium. The result leaves Dynamos in fourth place on 17 points, while ZPC Kariba climb to 10th position with 11 points.
Following the match, ZPC Kariba coach Newman Mashipe addressed concerns over stoppage time, saying, “Match officials are responsible for controlling the flow of the game, and I am not the one who determines how much additional time is added.”
The issue arose after Dynamos supporters questioned why only four minutes of added time were given, citing frequent stoppages during the match.
Dynamos coach Genesis Mangombe also shared his concerns, stating that “the four minutes of added time were not sufficient, especially considering how often play was interrupted.”
