{"id":39424,"date":"2025-10-22T04:02:08","date_gmt":"2025-10-22T04:02:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/eduzim.co.zw\/news\/?p=39424"},"modified":"2025-10-22T04:02:08","modified_gmt":"2025-10-22T04:02:08","slug":"malema-presses-mchunu-on-matlalas-affidavit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/eduzim.co.zw\/news\/2025\/10\/22\/malema-presses-mchunu-on-matlalas-affidavit\/","title":{"rendered":"Malema presses Mchunu on Matlala&#8217;s affidavit &#8211; SABC News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script data-jetpack-boost=\"ignore\" async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-1669381584671856\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<!-- Africa tv video display -->\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-1669381584671856\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"3579572842\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"auto\"\r\n     data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins>\r\n<script data-jetpack-boost=\"ignore\">\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has questioned Police Minister Senzo Mchunu about soliciting an affidavit from attempted murder accused Vusimuzi \u2018Cat\u2019 Matlala.<\/p>\n<p>Mchunu, who is on special leave, is appearing before Parliament\u2019s Ad hoc committee, looking into allegations of criminal infiltration, corruption and political interference in the criminal justice system, made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.<\/p>\n<p>Among others, Mkhwanazi alleged that top police officers and Mchunu are involved with criminal syndicates.<\/p>\n<p>The committee has heard that Mchunu obtained an affidavit from Matlala, who faces attempted murder charges, to confirm that they have no relations.<\/p>\n<p>But Malema questioned why Mchunu felt the need to get the confirmation from someone who is behind bars.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho you get affidavits from matters; you can\u2019t just get an affidavit from questionable characters, especially people who are behind bars. As a Police Minister, you should know even if this is not legally wrong, you should know it will raise questions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Questions] which gave rise to this situation we find ourselves in. If you had not pursued anything from Matlala, worse in maximum prison, where it should be difficult to access him,\u201d adds Malema.<\/p>\n<p>Malema further told Mchunu that one of his contacts had been found in possession of a sensitive letter, following Mchunu\u2019s complaints about being constantly questioned on his association with Brown Mogotsi.<\/p>\n<p>Mchunu complained that he has a lot of contacts and is not being questioned on his association with them, except for Mogotsi.<\/p>\n<p>Mogotsi is at the centre of Mkhwanazi\u2019s allegations that he was in possession of a classified letter from the minister instructing the disbandment of the Political Killings Task Team.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNone of those people you have as your contacts have ever claimed to have received a letter of the 31st of December from you. None of those people you have as your contact that we are not questioning you about have never claimed that they have asked money from Matlala to buy a table for you for the ANC dinner here in Cape Town on January 8th,\u201d questioned Malema.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNone of those people in your contacts have ever claimed to Matlala that issue that has been troubling you, of PKTT, that has been abusing you, is being dissolved?
