\/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong>MultiChoice <\/strong>is bringing back one of South Africa\u2019s most nostalgic TV traditions \u2013 <strong>\u201cOpen Time\u201d<\/strong> \u2013 as part of its celebrations marking <strong>30 years since DStv\u2019s launch in 1995<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>For one weekend only, from <strong>7 to 9 November 2025<\/strong>, all <strong>active DStv satellite customers<\/strong> will receive <strong>free access to the full DStv Premium bouquet<\/strong>, including top-tier sports, blockbuster movies, and international entertainment channels.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ALSO READ | MultiChoice waves goodbye to the JSE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The limited promotion echoes the beloved \u201cOpen Time\u201d era of the 1990s, when South Africans could sample M-Net\u2019s premium content for free on Sunday evenings.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-a-nostalgic-return-with-a-modern-twist\"><strong>A nostalgic return with a modern twist<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>\u201cWhen DStv launched in 1995, Open Time gave South Africans their first taste of subscription television,\u201d said <strong>Byron du Plessis<\/strong>, CEO of South African Pay TV at MultiChoice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBringing it back is a nod to that legacy \u2013 and part of our strategy to make entertainment more accessible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To amplify the nostalgia, <strong>familiar faces from DStv\u2019s early days<\/strong> \u2013 including <strong>Ashley Hayden, Scot Scott, and Doreen Morris<\/strong> \u2013 will feature in the campaign.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-a-blockbuster-weekend-lineup\"><strong>A blockbuster weekend lineup<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The Open Time weekend will coincide with a massive sporting schedule, including:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <strong>Springboks vs France<\/strong> Test<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>Manchester City vs Liverpool<\/strong> Premier League clash<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>Brazilian Grand Prix<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>MultiChoice hopes the free-access period will encourage more customers to upgrade to Premium while reconnecting with long-time subscribers.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-decoder-price-cuts-and-new-perks\"><strong>Decoder price cuts and new perks<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>In addition to Open Time, MultiChoice is <strong>cutting decoder prices<\/strong> from <strong>1 November<\/strong> \u2013 by <strong>30% in retail stores<\/strong> and <strong>over 40% through its new online DStv Store<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Newcomers will be able to buy a standalone HD decoder for R300 (or R700 with installation) from MultiChoice\u2019s online store.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Premium subscribers will also receive <strong>two extra device streams<\/strong> during <strong>November and December<\/strong>, along with:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Concierge customer support<\/li>\n<li>Expanded rewards like BoxOffice credits, travel prizes, and access to exclusive live events<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-canal-influence-and-the-road-ahead\"><strong>Canal+ influence and the road ahead<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The relaunch follows <strong>French broadcaster Canal+\u2019s recent acquisition of MultiChoice Group<\/strong>, which has already brought leadership changes and a renewed focus on innovation and market growth.<\/p>\n<p>While the Open Time event is limited to decoder users \u2013 streaming-only subscribers won\u2019t get free Premium access \u2013 all DStv customers can still take part in anniversary rewards promotions.<\/p>\n<p>MultiChoice says the campaign is both a celebration of DStv\u2019s legacy and a signal of its evolution as it adapts to new viewing habits in the streaming era.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re celebrating where we came from \u2013 but we\u2019re also showing that DStv is evolving for the future,\u201d Du Plessis
