Media companies across South Africa are using AI to <strong>improve production efficiency<\/strong>, <strong>personalise content<\/strong>, and <strong>enhance audience engagement<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cAcross Africa, startups are harnessing AI to produce content in local languages, broaden accessibility, and amplify regional perspectives,\u201d Stuart said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This shift toward <strong>AI-assisted creativity<\/strong> is empowering smaller production houses and independent creators to reach broader audiences at lower costs.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Digital Advertising Takes the Lead<\/h3>\n<p>The transition from traditional to digital advertising continues to accelerate. By 2029:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Nigeria<\/strong> is projected to achieve <strong>84% digital ad spend<\/strong>, surpassing the global benchmark of 80%.<\/li>\n<li><strong>South Africa<\/strong> will reach <strong>74%<\/strong>, and <strong>Kenya<\/strong> <strong>64%<\/strong>, reflecting strong growth in performance-based marketing, retail display, and paid search.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cNigeria\u2019s E&#038;M growth is driven by a predominantly young population and rapid digital innovation that\u2019s reshaping how content is created, consumed and monetised,\u201d said <strong>Udochi Muogilim<\/strong>, PwC Nigeria\u2019s Technology, Media and Telecommunications leader.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Connectivity Fuelling Digital Expansion<\/h3>\n<p>Improved internet infrastructure and 5G rollouts are enabling the rapid expansion of streaming, gaming, and mobile media.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In South Africa, <strong>video accounts for 76% of total data usage<\/strong>, while <strong>5G subscriptions<\/strong> are expected to surpass <strong>4G<\/strong> shortly after the forecast period.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Nigeria<\/strong> now has <strong>over 107 million internet users<\/strong>, and <strong>Kenya\u2019s mobile connections exceed its population<\/strong>, underscoring its mobile-first economy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gaming and E-sports: The Next Frontier<\/h3>\n<p>The report identifies <strong>gaming and e-sports<\/strong> as emerging powerhouse segments, especially in Nigeria, where <strong>gaming revenues (7.6% CAGR)<\/strong> are set to <strong>surpass traditional television revenue by 2028<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThis tipping point highlights the digital shift being driven by mobile platforms and immersive technologies,\u201d Stuart noted.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Bigger Picture<\/h3>\n<p>Africa\u2019s entertainment and media revolution is being shaped by <strong>digital transformation<\/strong>, <strong>youthful demographics<\/strong>, and <strong>AI integration<\/strong>.
