Today, South Africa\u2019s official opposition has branded him a \u201cneo-imperialist\u201d warlord.<\/p>\n<p>This staggering ideological pivot marks one of the quickest policy \u201cflip-flops\u201d in recent South African political history, leaving the party\u2019s credibility under intense digital fire.<\/p>\n<p>The public reaction has been scathing. On X (formerly Twitter), former Gauteng premier Mbhazima Shilowa concisely noted the party\u2019s \u201cbuyers remorse\u201d. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"\/>\n<p>Other users were more blunt; Mziwandile Ndlovu posted: \u201cYou celebrated his election. You see your stupidity now?\u201d while another user simply labelled them \u201cConfused fools\u201d.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"\/>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-mk-party-s-drastic-shift-on-donald-trump\">MK Party\u2019s drastic shift on Donald Trump<\/h2>\n<p>The shift is indeed jarring when compared to January 2025. Back then, the MK Party viewed Trump\u2019s inauguration as a \u201cpivotal opportunity\u201d and a \u201cbeacon of hope\u201d for dismantling global systems of exploitation.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"473\" height=\"449\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/eduzim.co.zw\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/From-beacon-of-hope-to-neo-imperialist-Zuma-partys-great-Trumpian.jpg?resize=473%2C449&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-293727\" srcset=\"https:\/\/eduzim.co.zw\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/From-beacon-of-hope-to-neo-imperialist-Zuma-partys-great-Trumpian.jpg 473w, https:\/\/s43365.pcdn.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/zuma-party-screenshot-on-trump-inauguration-255x242.jpg 255w, https:\/\/s43365.pcdn.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/zuma-party-screenshot-on-trump-inauguration-24x24.jpg 24w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 473px) 100vw, 473px\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>They lauded his \u201ccompassion\u201d regarding Ukraine and his supposed dedication to ending \u201cunjust\u201d attacks on Palestine. They even trusted Trump to use his power to champion a \u201cfairer and more inclusive\u201d UN Security Council.<\/p>\n<p>However, the \u201cbeacon of hope\u201d was extinguished by the reality of January 2026. Following months of escalating threats, the United States launched a coordinated military assault on the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. President Nicol\u00e1s Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were captured during a raid in Caracas and forcibly flown to New York to face 2020 narco-terrorism charges.<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s subsequent rhetoric was anything but the \u201cequitable governance\u201d the MK Party once envisioned. Boasting aboard Air Force One at the weekend, Trump declared \u201cwe\u2019re in charge\u201d and claimed the US was \u201ctaking back what they stole\u201d, referring to plans for American corporations to manage Venezuela\u2019s vast oil resources.<\/p>\n<p>The MK Party\u2019s tune has changed accordingly. South Africa\u2019s third-largest politcal party now unequivocally condemn the US for \u201cmilitarised coercion in the service of resource control\u201d and a \u201cfraudulent narrative\u201d of law enforcement. They have officially rejected the use of force to seize national resources, labelling the intervention a \u201cnew form of colonialism\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>As Akhona Gala joked on X: \u201cZuma is now going to take other KZN boys to Venezuela to fight war with USA\u201d. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Zuma is now going to take other KZN boys to Venezuela to fight war with USA.
