Jacob Zuma will welcome new members.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-party-shuffle\">Party shuffle<\/h2>\n<p>Earlier this month, the party removed two members from key positions within the organisation.<\/p>\n<p>The MK party replaced its chief whip in parliament and its treasurer-general.<\/p>\n<p>Former chair Colleen Makhubele was relieved of her duties and was replaced in an interim capacity by the party\u2019s National Council of Provinces whip, Mmabatho Mokoena-Zondi.<\/p>\n<p>Former Eskom CEO Brian Molefe is now the MK party\u2019s new treasurer-general, replacing Mpiyakhe Limba.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ALSO READ: What\u2019s behind Jacob Zuma\u2019s push to take over KZN?<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-high-turnover\">High turnover<\/h3>\n<p>The party said the changes were made \u201cin the best interests of strengthening the movement and advancing its political mandate\u201d<\/p>\n<p>These shuffles follow a period of high turnover and internal instability since the party\u2019s surge in the 2024 national elections.<\/p>\n<p>In mid-2025, former secretary-general Floyd Shivambu was summarily expelled from the MK party after leadership concluded he had placed himself outside the party\u2019s ideological line. Shivambu has since publicly criticised the MK Party, describing it as a \u201cfamily stokvel\u201d.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-mk-party-success\">MK party success<\/h3>\n<p>Last week, former president Thabo Mbeki stirred debate, claiming that the apartheid government\u2019s national security management system (NSMS) was \u201cactivated\u201d to deliver Zuma\u2019s MK party\u2019s electoral success to the detriment of the ANC.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Zuma\u2019s party\u00a0has seen phenomenal success through \u201cpersonality politics\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>According to a 2024 poll conducted on behalf of The Brenthurst Foundation, the MK party is the third-largest party in the country, with 15% behind the\u00a0ANC\u00a0at 39% and the DA at 27%.<\/p>\n<p>It became the largest party in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) with 45% of the vote.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-anc-drops\">ANC drops<\/h3>\n<p>Mbeki alleged that elements of this disbanded apartheid-era NSMS were \u201cactivated\u201d to influence the success of the MK party in the 2024 elections, raising concerns about the potential persistence of old security networks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou have a new organisation, called the MK party, that suddenly gets this huge support in KZN, and Gauteng a bit, Mpumalanga a bit. Why?\u201d Mbeki asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSuddenly, the ANC drops. Why has this population suddenly decided to abandon the ANC?
