The man who slotted series-winning goal kicks in two series against the British & Irish Lions will always have a special place in Springbok history.

49: Andre Venter (flanker) – One of the fittest and most formidable players to ever wear the jersey, he racked up 66 Test caps between 1996 and 2001, in which time he established himself as one of the most abrasive flankers in the game.

48: Willie le Roux (fullback) – A truly brilliant playmaker with over 100 caps to his name. At times, Le Roux has endured criticism from detractors, but his record as a double World Cup winner and the most-capped Springbok fullback of all time speaks volumes.

47: Ruan Pienaar (scrumhalf) – One of those players who perhaps didn’t always get the credit he deserved, but when he was at his best, Pienaar was a master of his craft. Capable of slotting in at scrumhalf or flyhalf, he was a silky smooth player with tons of class and ability.

46: Chester Williams (wing) – A pioneer and a clinical finisher, Williams was a player who transcended the game. If not for injuries and sporting isolation, he would have undoubtedly played in more than 27 Tests, but his legacy will last forever.

45: Bongi Mbonambi (hooker) – Mbonambi is still part of the current Springbok team, but he has already established himself as one of the greatest players to don the No 2 jersey. Built like a bar fridge, the abrasive front rower has all the ‘warrior’ qualities that Rassie Erasmus loves, and it’s no surprise that he has won two World Cups during the latest ‘golden era’ for the Springboks.

What do you think of the players on this list?

Let us know by clicking on the comment tab below this article

<ins class="adsbygoogle"
     style="display:block"
     data-ad-client="ca-pub-1669381584671856"
     data-ad-slot="3579572842"
     data-ad-format="auto"
     data-full-width-responsive="true"></ins>
#Top #Springboks #time #part

At a time when the Springboks are in their ‘off season’, it’s always interesting to keep the national debates going…

[32

post-49652","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-mzansi
["GET
