{"id":50214,"date":"2026-02-18T01:19:53","date_gmt":"2026-02-18T01:19:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/eduzim.co.zw\/news\/?p=50214"},"modified":"2026-02-18T01:19:53","modified_gmt":"2026-02-18T01:19:53","slug":"cp9myemmg3roat_mediumrssat_campaignrss","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/eduzim.co.zw\/news\/2026\/02\/18\/cp9myemmg3roat_mediumrssat_campaignrss\/","title":{"rendered":"Vinicius Junior: Jose Mourinho&#8217;s &#8216;big mistake&#8217; after &#8216;disgusting&#8217; incident"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script data-jetpack-boost=\"ignore\" async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-1669381584671856\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<!-- Africa tv video display -->\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-1669381584671856\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"3579572842\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"auto\"\r\n     data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins>\r\n<script data-jetpack-boost=\"ignore\">\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">Trent Alexander-Arnold said the alleged racist abuse of team-mate Vinicius Junior during Real Madrid&#8217;s Champions League match at Benfica was a &#8220;disgrace to football&#8221;, while opposition manager Jose Mourinho was criticised for his comments on the incident.<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The match was halted for 10 minutes after Vinicius reported alleged racist abuse by Benfica&#8217;s Gianluca Prestianni to referee Francois Letexier, and he and his team-mates temporarily left the field.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The Brazil forward, who has been the victim of numerous incidents of racist abuse during his playing career, said &#8220;Racists are, above all, cowards&#8221; in a post on his Instagram.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Benfica manager Mourinho claimed Vinicius did not &#8220;celebrate in a respectful way&#8221; after his stunning goal in the 1-0 win preceded the incident at the Estadio da Luz.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The former Real Madrid and Chelsea boss said: &#8220;There is something wrong because it happens in every stadium. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;A stadium where Vinicius plays something happens, always.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Reacting to Mourinho&#8217;s comments, former Real Madrid midfielder Clarence Seedorf said on Amazon Prime: &#8220;I think he is still emotional. I think he made a big mistake today to justify racial abuse.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;He&#8217;s saying it&#8217;s OK, when Vinicius provokes you, to be racist &#8211; and I think that is very wrong.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;We should never, ever justify racial abuse. Vinicius has had enough of that unjustified behaviour from people. I know Mourinho by heart would agree with me but he expressed himself a bit unfortunately, I believe.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">England international Alexander-Arnold condemned the incident in his post-match interview.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;I think what has happened tonight is a disgrace to football and overshadowed the performance, as well as an amazing goal,&#8221; said Alexander-Arnold.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Vini has been subject to this a few times throughout his career. To ruin a night like this for our team is a disgrace.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;There is no place for it in football or society.
