He was 67.<\/p>\n<p>Zanu PF Secretary for Education, Ideology and Research, and Minister of State for Harare Metropolitan Province,\u00a0<strong>Charles Tawengwa<\/strong>, announced the hero status to the Chiringa family at their home in Newlands suburb on Monday night.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter consultations with Politburo members, President Mnangagwa, who is the First Secretary of the party, has conferred national hero status on the late Cde Chiringa,\u201d said Tawengwa.<\/p>\n<p>He described the late Chiringa as a distinguished public servant and nation builder who served the country with dedication.<\/p>\n<p>Minister Tawengwa said Chiringa was a committed son of the soil who contributed immensely to Zimbabwe\u2019s liberation and development.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was a seasoned public administrator and servant of the people of Zimbabwe,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe dedicated his life to the struggle for national independence and continued to serve the nation diligently in the post-independence era.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Zanu PF Harare provincial chairman\u00a0<strong>Godwills Masimirembwa<\/strong>, who accompanied Tawengwa to the Chiringa family, described the late official as a loyal cadre who played an important role in coordinating government programmes in the capital.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe organised government programmes in Harare and relayed important messages to us regarding party and government initiatives. We have lost a dedicated cadre who was committed to the development of the country,\u201d said Masimirembwa.<\/p>\n<p>A close friend of the late Chiringa and Zanu PF Secretary for Economic Affairs,\u00a0<strong>Andy Mhlanga<\/strong>, said the two trained together in Mozambique during the liberation struggle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were together in Mozambique during the liberation struggle. We later operated in different provinces but met again soon after independence,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Mhlanga said Chiringa had been effective in his role as Harare\u2019s top government administrator.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe championed\u00a0a number of\u00a0developmental programmes in Harare,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Family members also expressed gratitude to the government for recognising his contribution.<\/p>\n<p>His daughter,\u00a0<strong>Kudakwashe Chiringa<\/strong>, thanked President Mnangagwa and the Zanu PF leadership for conferring national hero status on her father.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe appreciate the conferment of national hero status on our father.
