Police Warn: Private Vehicles With Sirens or Beacon Lights Will Be Seized<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
By A Correspondent \u2013 The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has issued a stern warning to motorists regarding the illegal use of sirens, bar lights, and beacon lights, as part of its ongoing nationwide operation.<\/p>\n
In a press statement released on 13th March 2026, the ZRP said the campaign, titled \u201cNo to plateless vehicles, illegal sirens, blue lights and other illegal gadgets fitted on motor vehicles,\u201d will continue targeting vehicles unlawfully fitted with these devices.<\/p>\n
The Police reminded citizens that red beacon lights are strictly for ambulances, fire engines, and the fire brigade, while blue beacon lights are reserved exclusively for the country\u2019s Presidium and Police vehicles.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe fittings of blue lights or sirens on private, family, or company vehicles is strictly prohibited under the country\u2019s laws,\u201d the statement read. \u201cAny motorist found driving a vehicle fitted with these lights will be arrested, the vehicle impounded, and the lights removed.\u201d<\/p>\n
The ZRP clarified that the operation does not apply to spotlights, strobe lights, or hunter\u2019s lights fitted on vehicles used specifically for hunting purposes, provided the owner or driver holds the proper documentation.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe urge motorists to be law-abiding citizens and observe the country\u2019s road rules and regulations for the safety of all Zimbabweans and visitors to the country,\u201d the statement concluded.<\/p>\n
This announcement follows growing concerns about the misuse of emergency-style lights on private vehicles, which authorities say pose serious safety risks and undermine the authority of official emergency vehicles on Zimbabwean roads.<\/p>\n
