Cde Chiringa In Sudden Death<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
By A Correspondent<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Permanent Secretary for Harare Provincial Affairs and Devolution,\u00a0Cosmas Chiringa<\/strong>, has died after suffering heart failure, it has emerged.<\/p>\n Chiringa passed away at\u00a0West End Hospital in Harare<\/strong>\u00a0on Monday. He was 67.<\/p>\n President\u00a0Emmerson Mnangagwa<\/strong>\u00a0has since conferred\u00a0national hero status<\/strong>\u00a0on the late senior government official.<\/p>\n Zanu PF Secretary for Education, Ideology and Research, and Minister of State for Harare Metropolitan Province,\u00a0Charles Tawengwa<\/strong>, announced the hero status to the Chiringa family at their home in Newlands suburb on Monday night.<\/p>\n \u201cAfter consultations with Politburo members, President Mnangagwa, who is the First Secretary of the party, has conferred national hero status on the late Cde Chiringa,\u201d said Tawengwa.<\/p>\n He described the late Chiringa as a distinguished public servant and nation builder who served the country with dedication.<\/p>\n Minister Tawengwa said Chiringa was a committed son of the soil who contributed immensely to Zimbabwe\u2019s liberation and development.<\/p>\n \u201cHe was a seasoned public administrator and servant of the people of Zimbabwe,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cHe dedicated his life to the struggle for national independence and continued to serve the nation diligently in the post-independence era.\u201d<\/p>\n Zanu PF Harare provincial chairman\u00a0Godwills Masimirembwa<\/strong>, who accompanied Tawengwa to the Chiringa family, described the late official as a loyal cadre who played an important role in coordinating government programmes in the capital.<\/p>\n \u201cHe organised government programmes in Harare and relayed important messages to us regarding party and government initiatives. We have lost a dedicated cadre who was committed to the development of the country,\u201d said Masimirembwa.<\/p>\n A close friend of the late Chiringa and Zanu PF Secretary for Economic Affairs,\u00a0Andy Mhlanga<\/strong>, said the two trained together in Mozambique during the liberation struggle.<\/p>\n \u201cWe were together in Mozambique during the liberation struggle. We later operated in different provinces but met again soon after independence,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Mhlanga said Chiringa had been effective in his role as Harare\u2019s top government administrator.<\/p>\n \u201cHe championed a number of developmental programmes in Harare,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Family members also expressed gratitude to the government for recognising his contribution.<\/p>\n His daughter,\u00a0Kudakwashe Chiringa<\/strong>, thanked President Mnangagwa and the Zanu PF leadership for conferring national hero status on her father.<\/p>\n \u201cWe appreciate the conferment of national hero status on our father. As a family, we are grateful that his contribution to the development of Zimbabwe has been recognised,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n Cosmas Chiringa was born on\u00a0December 10, 1960<\/strong>.<\/p>\n He is survived by his wife, four children and six grandchildren.<\/p>\n Burial arrangements are yet to be announced.<\/p>\n Mourners are gathered at\u00a0Number 32 Victoria Road, Newlands, Harare<\/strong>.<\/p>\n \t\t\t<\/p>\n <\/p><\/div>\n \nRelated<\/em><\/h3>\n<\/p>\n
