It is an attempt by those in power to crush our resistance,\u201d the union said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Union Raises Alarm Over \u201cThird Term\u201d Debate<\/h3>\n<p>The union linked the attack to broader political tensions surrounding discussions about constitutional changes that critics fear could extend the tenure of <strong>Emmerson Mnangagwa<\/strong> beyond current limits.<\/p>\n<p>According to ARTUZ, the so-called \u201c2030 agenda\u201d threatens democratic safeguards and could undermine constitutional term limits.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThis plot is an attempt by some to hold power beyond the law. ARTUZ strongly opposes this abuse and will mobilise members at school, district and provincial levels to defend the Constitution,\u201d the union stated.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Teachers Demand Wage Reform<\/h3>\n<p>Beyond political concerns, ARTUZ reiterated long-standing economic grievances affecting teachers across Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n<p>The union is demanding:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A <strong>salary of US$1,260<\/strong> to restore purchasing power for educators<\/li>\n<li>A <strong>genuine collective bargaining platform<\/strong> to replace the <strong>National Joint Negotiating Council<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Alignment of the <strong>Public Service Act<\/strong> with <strong>Section 65 of the Constitution<\/strong>, which guarantees workers\u2019 rights to organise and strike<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Union officials say teachers remain trapped in deep poverty while political elites continue to accumulate wealth.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Security Concerns for Union Leadership<\/h3>\n<p>ARTUZ also revealed that it has strengthened security around its president, <strong>Obert Masaraure<\/strong>, amid what it described as growing threats against union leaders.<\/p>\n<p>The union said internal measures are also being implemented in <strong>Matabeleland North<\/strong> after identifying security lapses that allegedly allowed the attack to occur.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Complaint to Authorities Planned<\/h3>\n<p>ARTUZ says it will file a formal complaint with the <strong>Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage<\/strong>, demanding an investigation into the assault and accountability for those responsible.<\/p>\n<p>The union also indicated it would work with international allies to highlight what it describes as repression against educators in Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cVictory is certain,\u201d the union declared in its closing remarks.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Legal Note<\/h3>\n<p><em>The claims contained in this article are based on statements issued by ARTUZ.
