IT Guru Exposes Min Mavetera<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
By Engineer Jacob Kudzayi Mutisi<\/strong><\/p>\n Hon.\u00a0<\/strong>Tatenda Mavetera Subject: Concern Regarding the Use of a Non-Zimbabwean City Image on the National AI Strategy Document<\/strong><\/p>\n Dear Honourable Minister,<\/p>\n I am writing to bring to your attention a serious matter of concern that has been identified by several international ICT professionals regarding the imagery used on Zimbabwe\u2019s\u00a0National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Strategy document<\/strong>\u00a0issued by the Ministry of ICT, Postal and Courier Services. I have attached the City of Harare and the front cover of the document to\u00a0this email to show the difference.<\/p>\n It has been observed that the image used on the document depicts a modern city skyline that does not appear to represent any town or city in Zimbabwe. This matter was recently raised within global ICT professional circles, where experts noted that the photograph seems to portray a foreign metropolitan environment rather than a Zimbabwean urban landscape.<\/p>\n Given that the National AI Strategy is an important policy document that represents Zimbabwe\u2019s technological ambitions and national identity, the use of imagery from another country may unintentionally misrepresent the country. Such issues can quickly be identified by international observers and will raise unnecessary questions about the authenticity of official government publications.<\/p>\n Zimbabwe has several cities and landmarks that could appropriately represent the country\u2019s progress and innovation. Urban centres such as\u00a0Harare,\u00a0Bulawayo,\u00a0Mutare\u00a0and\u00a0Victoria Falls\u00a0provide authentic imagery that would proudly showcase Zimbabwe\u2019s own environment and national development.<\/p>\n International ICT professionals have suggested that the Ministry consider reviewing the imagery used in the National AI Strategy document and where necessary, replacing it with visuals that accurately depict Zimbabwean cities, infrastructure or technology initiatives. Doing so would strengthen the credibility of the document and reinforce Zimbabwe\u2019s national branding on the global stage.<\/p>\n This matter is raised with the utmost respect for your office and the Ministry\u2019s ongoing efforts to advance Zimbabwe\u2019s digital transformation and artificial intelligence agenda. Ensuring that official publications accurately represent the country will further enhance Zimbabwe\u2019s reputation among international partners and technology stakeholders.<\/p>\n I trust the Ministry will review this matter and take the necessary steps to address the concern.
