President Chamisa Slams Mnangagwa Regime, Says Amendment Being \u201cForce-Fed\u201d on Citizens<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
Tinashe Sambiri\u2013 Citizens leader Nelson Chamisa has strongly condemned the disruption of meetings held by citizen volunteers across the country, accusing authorities of unfairly targeting those opposed to the controversial constitutional amendment linked to the #NoToED2030 campaign.<\/p>\n
In a statement on Sunday, Chamisa said meetings organized by citizen volunteers in several districts have been repeatedly disturbed or stopped, a situation he said must immediately end.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo date, Citizen Volunteers in various districts have had meetings disturbed, disrupted or stopped. This must stop!\u201d Chamisa said.<\/p>\n
He expressed concern over what he described as unequal political space, arguing that members of the ruling ZANU-PF are able to hold gatherings freely while those opposing the proposed amendment face restrictions.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat is surprising is that ZANU-PF leaders are able to hold meetings freely across the country, while those who oppose the heinous amendment are being denied the same opportunity,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Chamisa also questioned the push for the constitutional amendment, claiming that some party members appear to be coached on how to defend the proposal.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe moment you start coaching party members on what to say, it suggests one of two things: either you don\u2019t fully trust them, or they are not genuinely on the same page with you, perhaps both,\u201d Chamisa said.<\/p>\n
He further argued that the amendment does not have genuine grassroots backing and is instead being imposed from higher authorities.<\/p>\n
\u201cTruth be said, they do not own the very amendment. It is being \u2018force-fed\u2019 on them from the top,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Chamisa insisted that if the amendment truly originated from ordinary citizens as claimed, there would be no need to persuade or explain it to party supporters.<\/p>\n
\u201cAfter all, if the constitutional amendment was truly sponsored or suggested by \u2018your people\u2019 as you claim, there should be no need to explain or justify it to them in the first place,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The remarks come amid growing debate over constitutional changes linked to the #NoToED2030 campaign, which has sparked political tensions across the country.<\/p>\n
