Don\u2019t Shake the Baobab: Retired Generals Tear Into Temba Mliswa Over \u2018Disrespect\u2019<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
By Desmond Nleya and Shelton Muchena| Retired generals and ex-combatants, led by Air Marshal (Retired) Henry Muchena, have issued a blunt warning to Temba Mliswa, accusing him of inflammatory and disrespectful attacks.<\/p>\n
In a statement dated 18 March 2026, the group said they were compelled to respond after Mliswa \u201ctrivialised\u201d a serious national matter.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe seldom respond to noise,\u201d they said, \u201cbut your remarks crossed the line.\u201d<\/p>\n
The clash follows Mliswa\u2019s criticism of their letter to Parliament on Amendment Bill No. 3, which they insist must follow proper constitutional channels.<\/p>\n
They dismissed his comments as \u201cmisguided, constitutionally illiterate and disrespectful,\u201d and questioned his authority:<\/p>\n
\u201cWho gave you the mandate to respond in this manner?\u201d<\/p>\n
The generals argued Mliswa holds no official spokesperson role, describing him instead as \u201can opposition activist\u201d with no standing to address them as he did.<\/p>\n
They also condemned remarks allegedly labelling them \u201cbitter\u201d or \u201cjobless\u201d, calling them insulting and beneath serious discourse.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe served this country with distinction\u2026 in the liberation struggle and beyond,\u201d they said, defending their legacy and sacrifices for \u201cone man, one vote\u201d.<\/p>\n
The statement ended with a sharp warning:<\/p>\n
\u201cWe advise you not to repeat it. Ever.\u201d<\/p>\n
Citing a proverb, they added:<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen you shake the baobab, be certain you can withstand what falls from it.\u201d<\/p>\n
