Climate justice activist Pamela Gonyora has strongly condemned the unchecked destruction of rivers, mountains, and human livelihoods, warning that environmental and climate justice must remain central to any development agenda.<\/p>\n
In a recent statement, Gonyora described the ongoing illegal mining activities, allegedly involving both foreign nationals and politically connected locals as \u201ca catastrophic assault on nature and human dignity.\u201dShe noted that rivers are being heavily polluted with toxic chemicals, mountains are being degraded beyond repair, and nearby communities are suffering severe health and economic consequences.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur rivers are turning into death traps, our mountains are being reduced to scars, and our people are paying the ultimate price,\u201d Gonyora said. \u201cThis is not development. This is destruction disguised as progress.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gonyora also accused the government of turning a blind eye to the crisis, despite mounting evidence of environmental degradation and community suffering. She argued that failure to act decisively not only undermines environmental protection efforts but also violates the principles of climate justice.<\/p>\n
\u201cA government that ignores such widespread destruction cannot claim to stand for its people,\u201d he said. \u201cEnvironmental and climate justice must be at the core of our development policies. Without that, we are simply trading long-term sustainability for short-term gain.\u201d<\/p>\n
She called for immediate intervention, including stricter enforcement of environmental laws, accountability for those involved, and meaningful community engagement in decision-making processes. Gonyora also urged citizens to speak out and demand transparency and responsibility from leaders.<\/p>\n
