Mnangagwa Amnesty Beneficiary Steals Kombi<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
By A Correspondent \u2014 A 37-year-old man recently released under the Presidential Amnesty has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for stealing a commuter van in Harare.<\/p>\n
Tafadzwa Nemadziva was convicted at the Harare Magistrates\u2019 Court after evidence showed he fraudulently took possession of a Nissan Caravan earlier this month.<\/p>\n
According to court reports, on 13 March 2026, Nemadziva boarded the kombi along Simon Mazorodze Road, pretending to be a police officer.<\/p>\n
Upon reaching Budiriro, he approached the driver, who had been hired to transport schoolchildren to Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport for a trip. Using the trust he had built, Nemadziva gained access to the vehicle\u2019s keys and drove off under the pretext of buying food, never returning.<\/p>\n
The theft was quickly discovered when the vehicle\u2019s conductor raised the alarm.<\/p>\n
The van, valued at approximately US$18,000, was tracked via a GPS device along Mazowe Road.<\/p>\n
Members of the CID Vehicle Theft Squad later intercepted Nemadziva at a roadblock along the Centenary\u2013Harare Road, leading to his arrest and recovery of the vehicle.<\/p>\n
In a statement following the conviction, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) urged the public to exercise caution and warned that beneficiaries of Presidential Amnesty who commit crimes will face severe legal consequences.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis case highlights the need for vigilance. Individuals released under amnesty are still accountable under the law,\u201d the NPA said.<\/p>\n
