No Crisis In Zanu PF, Claims Marapira<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
Tinashe Sambiri\u2013 ZANU-PF has dismissed claims of internal divisions over leadership succession, with the party\u2019s Director of Information, Farai Marapira, insisting in a recent interview that the ruling party remains stable and firmly in control.<\/p>\n
Speaking last week during an interview with SABC, Marapira rejected suggestions that ZANU-PF is facing a succession crisis, arguing that such claims are based on misunderstanding or wishful thinking by critics.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf anyone honestly believes we have a succession problem in ZANU-PF, then they don\u2019t know what we are about,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are ZANU-PF, we are a revolutionary party. We are a party born of war, blood, and sacrifice.
\u201cWe are not affected by these false headlines. These are challenges in the heads of people who wish for our demise.\u201d<\/p>\n
Marapira maintained that when the time comes for leadership transition, the process will be seamless.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe as ZANU-PF, when the time for succession comes, we\u2019ll do it so smoothly, you are going to be surprised,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf we are both alive, I would love you to call me again on this interview, and you will see how smooth it will have gone.\u201d<\/p>\n
His remarks come amid ongoing political developments involving the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), which has been weakened following internal disputes linked to Sengezo Tshabangu.<\/p>\n
Tshabangu controversially assumed control of the party from Nelson Chamisa through contested legal processes, before initiating recalls of CCC Members of Parliament \u2014 a move that ultimately handed ZANU-PF a two-thirds majority in Parliament.
On the issue of the constitutional recall clause, Marapira said ZANU-PF has no intention of supporting calls for its removal, arguing that it ensures accountability.<\/p>\n
\u201cOne of the major complaints of the opposition is the recall clause because they have been complaining about how recalls should be struck out of the constitution,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut we have said that this is actually a binding of the people\u2019s will because when people go for elections, they go as members of political parties representing party manifestos and party ideologies.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo when they assume these positions, they have a modicum and a true sense of accountability to that party through whose manifesto they\u2019ve gone in.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo it is not our fault that the opposition is not able to structure itself in such a way that they can respect their own ethos and their own values.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo we have not accepted as ZANU-PF that we include this recall clause. These are not issues they are talking about,\u201d said Marapira<\/p>\n
