Opposition Movement Demands Immediate Release Of Political Prisoners<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
By A Correspondent \u2013 The Action Democratic Movement (ADM) on Thursday issued a strong statement demanding the immediate release of political prisoners, condemning what it described as an increasing crackdown on dissenting voices in Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n
In a message to the nation, ADM addressed the recent detention of young activist Takunda Mhuka, calling it a \u201cpainful reflection of a system that is increasingly intolerant of dissent.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cA young man attends a public consultation, expresses himself, is attacked, and then finds himself behind bars. This is not justice. This is intimidation,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n
The party raised pointed questions about the state of democracy in the country, asking: \u201cWhat kind of democracy punishes its citizens for having a voice? What kind of nation allows victims to become the accused while perpetrators walk free?\u201d<\/p>\n
ADM demanded accountability, declaring: \u201cTakunda must be released immediately. Those who attacked him must be held accountable. The rule of law must apply equally to all, regardless of political affiliation.\u201d<\/p>\n
The movement underscored that citizens\u2019 constitutional rights are non-negotiable, stating: \u201cZimbabwe belongs to its people \u2014 not to fear, not to violence, and not to repression. Our Constitution guarantees freedom of expression, freedom of assembly, and the right to participate in governance. These are not privileges; they are rights.\u201d<\/p>\n
The opposition party also called on Zimbabweans to remain resolute, saying: \u201cDo not lose hope. History has shown that no system built on injustice can stand forever. Your voice matters. Your courage matters. And together, we will continue to demand a nation where justice is not selective, and democracy is not a slogan, but a lived reality.\u201d<\/p>\n
ADM concluded by reaffirming its commitment to the struggle for a free and democratic Zimbabwe: \u201cThe struggle for a free, just, and democratic Zimbabwe continues \u2014 and we will not be silenced.\u201d<\/p>\n
