{"id":55703,"date":"2026-04-11T06:13:10","date_gmt":"2026-04-11T06:13:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/eduzim.co.zw\/news\/?p=55703"},"modified":"2026-04-11T06:13:10","modified_gmt":"2026-04-11T06:13:10","slug":"atm-pushes-ramaphosa-impeachment-explosive-ipid-phala-phala-report-released","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/eduzim.co.zw\/news\/2026\/04\/11\/atm-pushes-ramaphosa-impeachment-explosive-ipid-phala-phala-report-released\/","title":{"rendered":"ATM pushes for Ramaphosa impeachment after explosive IPID Phala Phala report released"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script data-jetpack-boost=\"ignore\" async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-1669381584671856\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<!-- Africa tv video display -->\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-1669381584671856\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"3579572842\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"auto\"\r\n     data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins>\r\n<script data-jetpack-boost=\"ignore\">\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The ATM has written to the Speaker of Parliament, Thoko Didiza, asking her to institute Section 89 proceedings and calling for the impeachment of President Cyril Ramaphosa following the release of the explosive Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) report into the Phala Phala farmgate scandal.<\/p>\n<p>Both ATM and ActionSA have been fervent in their efforts to release the report, which was initially classified as \u201ctop secret.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-ipid-report\">IPID report<\/h2>\n<p>The directorate launched an investigation into the conduct of police officers allegedly involved in the 2022 Phala Phala theft saga.<\/p>\n<p>The report found that the head of Ramaphosa\u2019s police security unit, Major General Wally Rhoode, deliberately concealed the theft of millions of rand worth of US dollars from the president\u2019s Phala Phala game farm.<\/p>\n<p>It also found that Rhoode and Constable Hlulani Rekhoto concealed the crime of housebreaking and theft of cash and failed to report it to a police station in accordance with Saps procedures.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-damning\">\u2018Damning\u2019<\/h3>\n<p>In a statement on Friday, ATM national spokesperson Zama Ntshona said the report is a \u201cdamning indictment of the abuse of state power and the erosion of constitutional governance under Ramaphosa\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe view the findings as a clear misuse of state machinery to conceal a private crime and protect the President. The findings of kidnapping, bribery, unlawful cross-border operations, and covert investigations outside SAPS mandate are deeply concerning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is the view of the ATM that these point to a rogue operation operating outside the law and in service of the President,\u201d Ntshona said.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-breaches\">\u2018Breaches\u2019<\/h3>\n<p>Ntshona said the party has also taken note of the serious breaches, including failure to inform the National Police Commissioner, bypassing lawful processes, falsification of records, and misuse of public funds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe view this as institutional corruption embedded within state operations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe truth of the matter is that the President is compromised. It is the firm view of the ATM that these findings fundamentally compromise the Office of the President and reflect state capture in real time, where state institutions are repurposed to shield political power,\u201d said Ntshona.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-action\">Action<\/h3>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-atm-confirmed-it-will-be-pursuing\">The ATM confirmed it will be pursuing:<\/h4>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Impeachment proceedings in terms of Section 89 of the Constitution.<\/li>\n<li>Parliamentary oversight and an Ad Hoc Committee through the Portfolio Committee on Police.<\/li>\n<li>Intervention by the Joint Standing Committee on Intelligence.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cThe ATM warns that South Africa stands at a constitutional crossroads. It is the view of the ATM that the Phala Phala scandal is no longer about stolen money but about the abuse of state power to protect those in office.
