Image: File

Nevertheless, the next payment date for May 2026 SASSA Old-Age Grants you can firmly scratch into your diary is Tuesday 5 May 2026. In April, the South African Social Security Agency was authorised by the National Treasury to increase grants by R80 to the following:

SASSA Old-Age Grants 60 to 74 years old – R2 400 (up from R2 320)

SASSA Old-Age Grants 75 years and older – R2 420 (up from R2 340)

After months of bargaining, the Finance Minister settled on a mere 3.4% official increase, which has left beneficiaries floundering. Last year grants increased by R110 (4.8%). Mere weeks after the below-inflation increase was made official this year, the Middle East conflict hit – spiking fuel prices and causing massive consumer inflation knock on.

GOOD NEWS FOR SASSA GRANT RECIPIENTS

Nevertheless, there is finally something positive to shout about for May 2026 SASSA Old-Age Grants. Because the agency confirms the SASSA self-service portal is back online. Following a series of technical glitches that disrupted online access, the website is functioning once again.

The South African last checked the status of the service portal sometime in 2025.
