A car idled nearby. Behind them, the brick buildings of the city carried on with their indifference, taxis passing, pedestrians weaving past without a glance. It was Zimbabwe Independence Day—a day meant to echo with pride, song, and memory. Instead, there was a quiet that pressed in.

At the center stood Christian Katsande, dressed with deliberate symbolism—a patterned shirt, a Zimbabwean scarf draped across his shoulders, a hat that tried to hold the moment together. He spoke with the cadence of ceremony, but his voice had to stretch to fill the empty space.

“People are busy,” he said, gesturing lightly, as if the missing crowd might still be just around the corner. “You know, making a living and all these things…”

The nine listened. Some nodded. Others stared ahead, their expressions caught somewhere between duty and distance.

“…but the few that are able to come together,” he continued, “the mission, the embassy will always be there to stand with you, to support you…”

A car door clicked shut behind him. The sound carried.

“…to make sure that the young people as they grow up, they appreciate and understand the adverse journey…”

A pause lingered, not for effect, but because there was nowhere for the words to land.

“…the road that we have traveled as a nation.”

Silence followed—not the respectful kind that follows applause, but the uncertain kind that waits for it and never receives it.

One of the attendees adjusted her bag. Another checked their phone. A man shifted his weight from one foot to the other. The city moved on around them, unbothered by speeches, untouched by anniversaries.

And in that moment, the story of the day was not in what was said—but in who was not there to hear it.

Related

<ins class="adsbygoogle"
     style="display:block"
     data-ad-client="ca-pub-1669381584671856"
     data-ad-slot="3579572842"
     data-ad-format="auto"
     data-full-width-responsive="true"></ins>
#Zim #Ambassador #Addresses #People #Independence #Day #Celebrations #ZimEye

Zim Ambassador To UK Addresses 9 People During Independence Day Celebrations By A Correspondent | ZimEye | On a mild…

[32,11
2526,4424,5421,169,6694,6566,202,1283,691
post-56522","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-mzansi","category-world","tag-addresses","tag-ambassador","tag-celebrations","tag-day","tag-eduzim","tag-independence","tag-news","tag-people","tag-zim
["GET
