On Wednesday the First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa toured exhibition stands at the fair in what officials described as a programme focused on women\u2019s empowerment, economic inclusion and cultural preservation.<\/p>\n
However, observers say the visit amounted to little more than a ceremonial appearance.<\/p>\n
During the walkabout, she emphasised themes of national development anchored on trade, investment and community participation, while also promoting the Gota\/Nhanga\/Ixhiba cultural programme as a foundation for moral and social discipline.<\/p>\n
Her tour included stops at various exhibition stands, including those showcasing school robotics projects and locally produced goods. While organisers praised the interaction, some attendees privately expressed disappointment over the lack of direct policy engagement or concrete support measures.<\/p>\n
One event facilitator, speaking on condition of anonymity, described the visit as underwhelming. \u201cIt was a mere walkabout. There was excitement, yes, but no real follow-up, no commitments, nothing that changes the reality for exhibitors,\u201d the facilitator said.<\/p>\n
The First Lady, who also serves as ZANU PF Secretary for Environment and Tourism, concluded her tour at her ministry\u2019s exhibition stand, where agro-tourism initiatives were showcased.<\/p>\n
These included concepts such as remembrance gardens and memorial parks aimed at promoting cultural heritage and community learning.<\/p>\n
Despite the display of cultural and developmental themes, critics argue that such engagements are increasingly becoming performative, with little measurable impact on the economic hardships facing ordinary citizens.<\/p>\n
As the fair continues, questions remain over whether such high-profile visits translate into meaningful development or simply serve as staged moments of visibility without substance.<\/p>\n
