Her murder was investigated by the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT).<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-trial\">Trial<\/h2>\n<p>During proceedings, the court heard how the two former police officers, Sergeant Bonginkosi Dlamini and Lieutenant Colonel Khepu Ndlovu, together with a local induna, his wife and son, attempted to persuade and influence witnesses not to testify against suspects implicated in the murder case.<\/p>\n<p>Investigations revealed that the two police officers were paid R120 000 to try to derail the course of justice.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-murder\">Murder<\/h3>\n<p>Police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said their actions sought to undermine the integrity of the criminal justice system.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe local induna, Felokwakhe Ndlovu, and two others were previously found guilty of the murder of Nxumalo and were sentenced to life imprisonment in October 2024.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-sentence-welcomed\">Sentence welcomed<\/h3>\n<p>The Acting National Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS), Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, has welcomed the sentencing of the two former police officers.<\/p>\n<p>Dimpane said the conviction sends a strong message that any attempts to interfere with witnesses or obstruct investigations will not be tolerated, regardless of the position held by those involved.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Saps remains resolute in its commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that those within its ranks who engage in criminal conduct are held accountable,\u201d said Dimpane.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-pktt\">PKTT<\/h3>\n<p>Nxumalo\u2019s fatal shooting came as the Moerane Commission\u2019s report on political killings in the province was tabled before portfolio committees in the KZN legislature.<\/p>\n<p>Former KZN Premier Willies Mchunu established the commission in October 2016 to investigate political killings in the province since 2011.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<h3>Support Local Journalism<\/h3>\n<p>Add The Citizen as a Preferred Source on Google and follow us on Google News to see more of our trusted reporting in Google News and Top Stories.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><script data-jetpack-boost=\"ignore\" async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-1669381584671856\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<!-- Africa tv video display -->\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-1669381584671856\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"3579572842\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"auto\"\r\n     data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins>\r\n<script data-jetpack-boost=\"ignore\">\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><br \/>\n#ExSAPS #cops #jailed #witness #tampering #ANC #leader #Nxumalo #murder #case<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nxumalo was killed in Kwandengezi in 2018.
