Although the print is sinister, its caption states that the Terror is dreadful, but necessary. Reign of Terror lasted from September 1793 until the fall of Robespierre in 1794. Its purpose was to purge France of enemies of the Revolution and protect the country from foreign invaders.
the Terror wasn’t justified, because it was primarily directed as a means of terrorizing the opponents of the radical movement’s attempts toward instilling dictatorial control.
A second reason the Reign of Terror was not justified was the methods they used wasn’t necessary. The first reason the Reign of Terror was not justified was they threatened them in the wrong ways. In document C, they used threats by using the draft and making them fight involuntarily.
The Reign of Terror began on September 5, 1793 with a declaration by Robespierre that Terror would be “the order of the day.” It ended on July 27, 1794 when Robespierre was removed from power and executed. During the Reign of Terror, France was ruled by a group of men called the Committee of Public Safety.
