According to Stanley Mudenge, trade was one of the major economic activity which saw the accumulation of wealth and attainment of social status to some(the upper class)within the Great Zimbabwe State. You explain the benefits of barter trade which brought forth unity and harmony between lineages/families of different calibres within the state, this unison was muchly needed for the growth and raise of such a majestic state like Great Zimbabwe.In-goods trade changed the face of the state and the lives of the general people.
Out-goods, mostly the precious kind of goods that lured the foreigners to engage into trade, therefore leading to the birth of a new special economic zone/activity of extraction called mining where minerals such as gold, copper and iron were realised for the sole-benefit of the state. Thus, this became the best activity which earmarked the fateful mainstay of the Great Zimbabwe state. For example, trading with the Swahili Merchants and the Chinese according to evidence obtained in archaeology, it constituted most to the wealthy of the state.
They induced a lot of precious goods and tools such as beads, cloth of cotton and silk, leading to a better living standard of the people of the state on a more social level. Moreover, tribute was another branch that came up as a result of the above, thus allowing people to pledge and trade their allegiance, respect, loyalty and submission to the King in form of goods, produce and ornaments. This is an actual fact that trade became a keynote address on all the social aspects of the life of Shona people of Great Zimbabwe.
