“It Was a Robbery” — Raphinha Blasts Referees After Barcelona Loss to Atlético
Sports Correspondent – FC Barcelona forward Raphinha has launched a furious attack on match officials following his side’s UEFA Champions League elimination at the hands of Atlético Madrid on Tuesday night.
The Brazilian winger did not hold back after the final whistle, suggesting that refereeing decisions played a decisive role in Barcelona’s exit.
“For me, it was a robbery. I really wanted to understand this fear among referees of Barcelona reaching the win,” said Raphinha.
Barcelona bowed out of the competition after a 3-2 aggregate defeat, despite securing a 2-1 victory in the second leg away from home.
The Catalan giants had put themselves under pressure after suffering a 2-0 loss in the first leg, leaving them with a mountain to climb heading into the return fixture in Madrid.
Although they responded with a spirited performance and managed to win on the night, it was not enough to overturn the deficit, with Atlético Madrid advancing to the next round.
Raphinha’s comments are likely to stir controversy, as frustration mounts within the Barcelona camp over yet another Champions League disappointment.
