Mafume Sets August Deadline for Installation Of Bucket Seats At Rufaro Stadium

Sports Correspondent – Jacob Mafume has announced that the City of Harare is targeting August this year to complete the installation of bucket seats at Rufaro Stadium, as part of efforts to modernise the iconic venue.

Currently, bucket seating is limited to the VIP and VVIP sections, but the ongoing upgrade aims to extend the installation across the entire stadium to meet contemporary standards.

“We want to say by August we would have installed all the bucket seats at Rufaro Stadium,” Mafume said.
The mayor also moved to clarify the city council’s role in matchday revenue, amid growing complaints from football fans over rising ticket prices.

“Matchday funds don’t come to the council directly. What we do is we surrender the stadium to the home team, who take all the gate takings,” he explained.

“They simply hire the venue from the city council and probably pay about $1,000 or give 4% of their gate takings to council.”

Mafume’s remarks come at a time when supporters have been questioning the justification for increased entrance fees at local matches, with many calling for greater transparency around pricing structures.
